Jibidee Launches to Public at TechCrunch50 Web Startup Conference in San Francisco!

Last week was awesome! Sean (my development partner) and I spent three days together in San Francisco launching Jibidee (http://www.jibidee.com/) from the Demo Pit at TechCrunch50 (www.techcrunch.com). We met so many great people and received lots of good feedback on Jibidee. The reactions we received were overwhelmingly positive! We even lucked into some great media coverage, checkout this interview:

And here is some nice blog coverage http://wordpress.com/tag/jibidee/ (thanks Greg) and http://blogs.zdnet.com/Stewart/?p=932 (thanks Ryan).
More to post later about our public launch and want to mention more of the great companies, websites, and people we encountered at the show. But for now, here's a little celebrity fix. Below are pics from the show with me and Ashton Kucher (he launched blahgirls.com), MC Hammer (he launched dancejam.com last year), and Mark Cuban (dotcom zillionaire, he was keynote speaker, we actually gave him personal demo of Jibidee...and he liked it!).

Scanned Docs and Pictures

Major Jibidee release today...

You can now upload single-page scanned documents and pictures to Jibidee. Want a safe place to store those receipts, warranties, other important documents? If they are saved as an image file on your computer, you can upload and store them on Jibidee…and share the same way you can with other Jibidee sheets. Currently limited to one-page documents and single photos…future plans to handle multi-page documents and multi-page photo albums.

Also, we’ve added the ability to not just change your password but you can now also change your email address login, your first/last name and whether you do or do not want to receive our occasional newsletter. Coming soon will be the ability to add “alternate email” addresses to your profile for those of us that have multiple email addresses (home, work, etc.) and want to consolidate and receive shared sheets under any of your email addresses.

In the background...

Big news for Jibidee, "change background" is now available and wow does it make a big difference to the user experience. This move really takes us to a true webtop experience (not the loose webtop definition we see out there sometimes that really is just a single web application or RIA).

We've also put in our upgrade "freemium" options. Our free account displays ads and is limited to 20 sheets (that's a lot). $18/year gets you no-ads (removes the ad panel and gives edge-to-edge webtop space which is nice), another $18/year for unlimited sheets or $29/year for both. Also tonight we are giving complimentary free 1 year unlimited to all of our private beta users that have 15 or more sheets as of 7/15.

Public launch coming soon, promise...

I have SO MUCH to write about, all of the details and history that went into Jibidee and even more important the BIG plans we have for it. I will step up my posts and get everything up to speed....

Share your Jibidee!

Sharing on Jibidee is here! A big milestone has been reached here at Jibidee.com…users can now send and receive sheets from other users! Send the kid’s summer camp schedule to your spouse and other family members. Share your notes from a phone call with your business partner. Send your travel itinerary to your friends and family. Share your list of kid-friendly movies with other parents. Share your top 10 business books. These are just a few sharable sheets that came up in my life today…

Sheet sharing is easy. Just click the “Share” button at the top of any sheet and enter one or multiple email addresses or select from one of your previously entered address book contacts. Each person you enter gets an email with a link to your sheet which they can access anytime from within their account as long as you keep it shared to them. Share with anyone. Keep in mind that you can share sheets with ANYONE, not just current Jibidee members. If you know someone’s email address, you can share with them.

Have fun with this new feature and tell us what you think. Keep in mind this first version of sharing simply sends a “copy” to the recipients (although any updates you make to the original will automatically reflect to those you share with). Later, we will be adding “collaboration” which will allow multiple users to make changes, mark items complete, etc. on the same common document (e.g. wedding registry, project task list, etc.).

Simple notes

New Sheet Type Added this week on Jibidee..."Plain/Notes" now added to the list of available sheet types (adding to Simple List, Checklist, and Rows/Columns). These are great for making simple notes or you could use for something as interesting as writing a simple blog (and share privately with friends and family) or a recipe. It is a basic, free-form sheet for saving and sharing simple text notes and compositions...I will personally use these probably more than any of the other sheet types...

Getting close...

Whoa, been two weeks since my last post. Blogging is a big commitment! Well since my last post we have checklists working great and we've added simple note type sheets. These are my personal favorite because I like to jot stuff down, notes from calls, etc. and this works great for me. We now have the early tri-fecta: lists, checklists, notes!

We are now full-swing in developing the sharing piece. Lots of challenge in the design/build of this but we have really turned the corner in last few days and it looks very good for a solid landing next week. This is the final capstone to our public beta launch planned for first week of June. We are super excited, what a long journey it has been (mid 2007).

Tonight working on the FAQ...

Good and then really good

Well, checklist sheets didn't score perfect landing today but landed nonetheless. We couldn't quite get the "filter/hide" checked items function to work the way we wanted so we had to settle for sorting to bottom only for now. It still looks and works great with the strikethrough and fade, we'll come back and get the filter/hide to work later. Glad to have this one done and now knock out simple text/note sheets.

But the BIG news today was the call I received late in the day from someone that has been advising and watching us closely in the last few months. He and several other good souls we've been talking to apparently talked and decided to invest in jibidee. Whoa! This is big for us and the timing couldn't have been better. No stopping us now! Allen

My first post

My first Jibidee blog post, let's see how this goes. Cool thing is that checklists/to-do list type sheets should be in by morning by my guesstimate. I personally have been waiting for this one, will use big time. The existing rows/columns sheets are cool and I use them but right now with everything I'm trying to manage, I need to check some stuff off!! And the next thing is the plain/notepad sheets which I need almost as bad for all the notes I have scattered. Having a real "up" day today realizing how good jibidee is coming out and how unique and useful it will be for people (and already is for our private beta users). It was especially encouraging to get so much positive response from our little pricing survey, people are willing to pay a little money for unlimited, no ad version which is great because we may be able to self-fund ourselves sooner and keep building new cool stuff which is what we want to do. We also learned from our survey that 20 sheets is a plenty big enough number for the free users. Our vision for the site all along was for it to be free for most users and our current plan should allow for that. All for now, Allen
